MtMan-List: Re log cabin
Re log cabin
The field report from Lee Driver correlates fairly well with our experience
building the cabin by hand, considering the difference in equipment. Lee's was
probably bigger. Our plan was based on historical examples from back east (the
"dog trot" is frequently seen on old farms) plus common sense and expedience as
we proceeded. Half the fun of living history is to see what you need to do to
get ahead with period materials. Although a log cabin is rather dark by day,
there is a special feeling while sitting inside around the fire, watching the
dancing light on the log walls, each of which was a minor accomplishment to set
in place.
